Course Overview

Arden’s Master of Public Health course has been developed to meet the increasing demand for graduates with a passion for managing and leading preventive health services in communicable and non-communicable diseases. The course places emphasis on providing you with the most current skills in healthcare and digital literacy in health services management, giving you the ability to support healthcare delivery and better health outcomes at population, community, and national level. 

The course is designed to be flexible and contemporary in its structure and delivery, and has been developed in close collaboration with leading public health employers and industry advisory groups. This means you’ll be exposed to a variety of teaching approaches and assessment methods to support the development of your knowledge and abilities in public health, helping you graduate with the specialised skills necessary for a successful career in the public health sector. 

This public health master course also prepares you for the digital and data driven world that the public health profession has now moved into. You’ll also have the opportunity to become proficient with a wealth of digital technologies such as SPSS, NVIVO, Stata, Gorilla, and more. This gives you the chance to learn about virtual simulations used to predict, model, and plan for future infectious and non-infectious disease outbreaks, as well as how to respond to real life challenges that may arise in your future career in public health. 

Entry requirements

At Arden University applications are consider on a case by case basis. If you have significant work experience, have qualifications you have gained elsewhere, or a degree or qualification that isn’t a clear pathway to this degree – Arden team is more than happy to discuss your application.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Master of Public Health, AU need to see that you have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent at 2:2 level
  • Individuals who have HND/HNC/Dip HE, with three to four years strong professional work experience with evidence of managerial/supervisory responsibilities are also encouraged to apply

AU also consider applications from candidates who lack formal qualifications but possess at least five years of relevant managerial experience in any discipline.

English proficiency

  • IELTS 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element); or TOEFL iBT 90; or equivalent
  • Alternatively, evidence you have previously studied in English, such as a letter to show that the Medium of Instruction was in English, can be accepted.

AU also offer an internal English test for applicants who are unable to provide the above evidence of English proficiency. 

Before you start studying

Whilst you can read your study materials on your smart phone or tablet, to make the most of your learning experience, you will need access to a laptop or computer (AU recommend one running the latest version of Windows), and a good stable internet connection.

Course details and modules

You will study seven core modules and choose one optional ‘elective’ module from a possible four options. This gives you the opportunity to adapt your course syllabus to match your career interests and support your future employability prospects. 

Given the quantitative nature of some modules on the Master of Public Health, an introductory mathematics and statistics module is available to students who need extra support with their numeracy skills at the beginning of the course. Please make an enquiry for more details.

It offers an integrated virtual learning experience, including your virtual classroom, lecture theatre, and online library (which when used along with AU supplementary library, Perlego, gives you access to almost half a million books and journals – yours for free while you study with us). ilearn is also integrated with Zoom, making it easier to chat with your course tutor during your scheduled seminar sessions. You can even integrate AU study materials into your Kindle, making it possible to study wherever you have your Kindle handy.

Full time, blended learning

How does it work?

When you choose AU blended learning study mode, you’ll have eight hours of timetabled classes spread over two days at AU centrally located Berlin campus. This is combined with around 25 hours of independent study, which takes place through ilearn, Arden university campus in the cloud. ilearn contains all the resources you need to study successfully. You’ll also have access to AU online library, Perlego, which contains almost half a million books, journals, and industry literature which you can make use of throughout your studies, removing the need to buy expensive course books in order to study successfully.

Full time study in Berlin is the best option for students who prefer the structure of regular face to face classes with their tutor and fellow classmates, and is particularly suited to students who are attracted by the opportunity to move to Germany to study, where you can take advantage of the employment opportunities available for overseas students.
