Course overview
Embark on a relevant, contemporary, and stimulating journey with our BSc (Hons) Health and Social Science with Foundation Year programme. This course offers a focus on innovative and cross-disciplinary health and social science research, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of society’s complexities and the role of health, communities, and workplaces within it. The curriculum covers a broad range of contemporary ideas, theories of society, history, and culture, reflecting Regent College values.
The foundation year serves as a solid grounding for further study in health and social sciences, equipping students with essential academic skills and knowledge. Through foundational courses and exploration of contemporary issues, students develop critical thinking, communication, and research skills essential for success in higher education.
Building on the foundation year, students explore health and wellbeing issues from sociological, geographical, and anthropological perspectives over the next three years. Topics include mental health, ageing, equality diversity and rights, gender and sexuality, and global health, with a focus on the intersection of research, policy, and practice.
The programme includes two 10-credit micro-modules at levels 4 and 5, focusing on transferable skills and knowledge essential for success in the health and social science sector. Covering areas such as career and employability, personal development, global citizenship, sustainability, digital literacy, and health and wellbeing, these modules provide students with in-demand skills and knowledge.
Thinking into Character (TiC): Embedded throughout the programme is our transformative Thinking into Character (TiC) programme, designed to support personal development and help students set and achieve their personal, educational, and career goals. By fostering character development and reflective thinking, TiC empowers students to become confident and ethical leaders.
